Police officer from Rakhiv district, who beat a detained local resident, will be on trial

Transcarpathian region prosecutor’s office completed the preliminary investigation and forwarded to court an indictment in the criminal proceeding on the abuse of power by one of the senior officials of Rakhiv District Police in Transcarpathian region (Part 2 of Art.365 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Following the preliminary investigation, it was found out that on June 3, the police officer deliberately, exceeding his powers, had beaten a local resident and illegally put him in handcuffs.

During the investigation, at the request of the prosecution, the suspect was removed from office. 

Note: under Part 2 of Art.365 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the accused faces imprisonment for 3 to 8 years with deprivation of the right to hold positions or engage in certain activities for 3 years.
