As we already reported, a fatal accident happened yesterday in Vynogradiv district.
Representatives of the specialized department for investigation of crimes in the transport sphere of the Transcarpathian regional police, together with the investigators of the Vynogradiv police department, found the culprit of a road accident, which resulted in the death of a female pedestrian. The driver, who was drunk while driving and subsequently tried to avoid responsibility for the crime, was detained.
Yesterday, February 25, in the evening, the police received an anonymous report of an accident with victims in the village of Veryatsya in Vynogradiv district. The investigative team immediately arrived at the scene.
At the scene, they found out that a local resident born in 1969 was killed as a result of the accident. The law enforcement officers quickly identified the culprit.
The investigators found out that in the village of Veryatsya, a local resident, driving a car "Lada Kalina", lost control and hit a pedestrian, after which ran into a power line pole.
As a result of the accident, the pedestrian died at the accident scene, and a passenger of the car – a minor resident of the village of Veryatsya – was hospitalized in the district hospital with a polytrauma.
The driver himself fled from the scene of the accident, he was found at his place of residence. The driver of the vehicle was tested for alcohol content in the blood. The result was positive. 0.7 ppm of alcohol was found in the driver’s blood. The man was arrested under Article 208 of the CCP of Ukraine. As of now, he is in a temporary detention facility.
Law enforcement officers opened a criminal proceeding over the accident under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, that is, violation of traffic rules that caused the death of the victim. Sanction of this Article provides for punishment by imprisonment for a term of three to eight years with or without deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years.
The car of the culprit was taken to the impound lot. The investigation continues.
