Pogorelov finally saw “some problems in the life of the European city”

April 25, at the Uzhhorod City Council there was a round table discussion on the reconstruction of the pedestrian zone on S. Petofi sqr.

At the meeting, the Mayor of Uzhgorod Victor Pogorelov, his deputies Yuri Belyakov and Oleksandr Kovacs, Acting Head of the Architecture Department of Uzhgorod City Council Volodymyr Samsonov, the City Council deputy Yaroslav Shafar and Uzhgorod traffic police chief Oleksiy Spivak discussed plans for modernization of the square while preserving its color, giving it a new face.

It was about restriction of traffic in the pedestrian zone of the square. To do this they plan to install barriers at the beginning and at the end of the pedestrian zone, to put benches, arrange flower beds. Perhaps, later there will be markings for bicycle lanes there.

"In Uzhgorod, there has never been such intense car traffic in pedestrian zones – Victor Pogorelov said. – It emerged over time. Now, every third resident of Uzhgorod has a car and it definitely creates some difficulties in the life of the European city. Uzhgorod is the center of Europe, and we must take care of it. Therefore every detail of its appearance is important. This, of course, applies to the central squares of the city. One of these – S. Petofi square – will start a new life soon."

Well, let’s wait and see …
