In order to meet the needs of mobility impaired persons, first of all it is necessary to arrange pedestrian crossings, adapt local parking spaces, build ramps to local centers for provision of administrative services, educational establishments and shops in the Perechyn united community. This was stated by the participants of the public consultation with the interested parties organized by the NGO "Center UA". Representatives of the authorities and activists stressed the low level of activity of relevant public organizations in the creation of infrastructure for people with special needs. In their opinion, the cooperation of the public with the district authorities and the Perechyn united community will promote the socialization of people with disabilities and ensure taking their needs into account in the development of specialized programs.
The need of some residents of Perechyn community in accessible transport and public spaces is not met: most vehicles and premises are uncomfortable for people with locomotory impairments and parents with strollers. The lack of proper infrastructure leads to the isolation of mobility impaired residents and limits their participation in economic and social life.
The representatives of the authorities declared their readiness to create conditions for different social groups to have equal access to socio-economic aspects of the community life. However, it was emphasized that the development of a number of opportunities for people with disabilities is possible with proper cooperation:
"In the issues of education and leisure of mobility impaired groups, there is a need for a proper cooperation between the district authorities, representatives of the community and people with disabilities," – Olesia Vovkanych-Belekanych, the secretary of the city council said.
Lyubov Lutsuk, the director of the Center for the Provision of Social Services in Perechyn Territoral Community, emphasized that with a fruitful cooperation between the public, the authorities and business, significant changes could be made within this year.
According to the participants of the consultation, Perechyn united community should provide physical accessibility and opportunities for more active participation of mobility impaired residents in the community life.
