In Transcarpathia, several politicians announced their withdrawal from the Party of Regions and expressed support for the presidential candidate Serhiy Tihipko. Mykhailo Popovich, who once headed the regional organization of the "Strong Ukraine" party, explained this decision: "We support the position of Serhiy Tihipko that the PR missed the chance for modernization and further development, was discredited by its leaders. We do not belong in the party with those who ignore people’s opinion. We need to create a new social and political movement that will protect the interests of all residents of Ukraine and unite the country, as well as ensure the development of our native land – Transcarpathia."
Mykhailo Popovich also said that the current presidium of the PR, in his opinion, did not become more democratic, but even strengthened the authoritarian, dictatorial style of leadership, became engaged in intrigues instead of real reform. That is, it turned into a "collective Yanukovych".
The politician also said that soon the branch of the political force, founded by Tihipko at the national level, will be established in Transcarpathia.
