Party of Regions member’s son-in-law, who attacked the journalist, may be sentenced to 3 years in prison

On April 5, the Investigative Division of Velyky Berezny district police department registered the statement of the journalist Larysa Romanyuk on impediment to her journalistic activities.

 On the same day the information about this fact was made in the Unified registry of pre-trial investigations, and criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 171 of the Criminal Code (intentional obstruction of journalistic activities – punishable by a fine of up to fifty free minimum incomes, or arrest for a term up to six months or restriction of liberty for a term up to three years) was initiated. This was reported to Zakarpattya online by the Press Secretary of Transcarpathian regional prosecutors Victoria Popovich. Prosecutors keep the investigation under control.

Recall, the reporter of the "Stary Zamok Palanok" newspaper Larysa Romanyuk was performing the editorial assignment of covering the assembly of the community of the village of Chornoholova, who protested against the construction of small hydropower plants on the local rivers of Bistrica and Lyutyanka. An unidentified man, who had arrived in a jeep Toyota Land Cruiser, assaulted her and tried to take away the camera. The villagers stopped the violence.
