The six museums of the three countries on the Ukrainian-Hungarian-Slovak border will be covered by a joint project to preserve cultural heritage and create modern tourist products. Those six include the Mukachevo History Museum, three museums in Slovakia and two in Hungary.
The project was approved within the framework of the cross-border cooperation program of the European Neighborhood Instrument "Hungary – Slovakia – Romania – Ukraine 2014-2020". On the part of Ukraine, it will be implemented by the Association of Small and Medium Business Development and Innovation "Uzhgorod – XXI Century" as the main partner of the consortium.
Together, they will receive a European Union grant of € 721,000. The Ukrainians will receive more than a third of this money – € 280,000 – to restore and renovate the exhibits of the museum of the ancient Palanok Castle in Mukachevo. Over two years, they will overhaul and renovate the buildings of the Lower Court, create new displayss using modern digital technologies.
The project will begin with the signing of a partnership agreement between the consortium of the participants of the SMART Museum project. In the Palanok Castle, it was signed by the co-coordinator Yevheniy Luksha and the director of the Mukachevo History Museum Mykhailo Belekanych.
