Today, near the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, several hundred people and several dozens cars with EU license plates were rallying for "affordable cars for all", the Mukachevo.net reported.
Representatives of the organization "Auto Euro Force" demand the adoption of a law on the clearance of vehicles with their amendments.
– We demand the amount of the customs clearance fee, which is now set in the law, to be reduced. If you multiply the rate by the age of the car, it will unaffordable for an ordinary Ukrainian, – a participant of the rally Denis says.
The main demands of the protesters are to abolish the excise tax rate, which depends on the age of the imported car, so that the cost of customs clearance is equal for all.
According to the participants, they will protest without time limits, until their demands are fulfilled.
Vehicular traffic is hampered, but the road is not blocked. The police tightened security in connection with protests in the government quarter.
Patrol policemen are ensuring road safety and helping drivers choose comfortable routes.
The law for legalization of cars with EU license plates was adopted by the Parliament in the first reading on July 13, it was supported by 265 deputies. Yesterday, November 6, the committee recommended the Parliament to pass a law on reduction of the customs clearance fee for cars with EU license plates.
According to the changes, a new formula for calculating the excise tax is proposed. The base rate will be 50 euros for gasoline-powered cars and 75 euro for diesel-engine cars.
To calculate the excise tax, this figure needs to be multiplied by the number of years from the year following the year of the car release, and by the engine capacity coefficient (engine volume in cubic centimeters divided by 1000).
