On Tuesday, October 15, there were open hearings on "Transcarpathian Roma – situation, experience, analysis of problems." The meeting was attended, among others, by the Deputy Head of the Regional State Administration Ivan Kachur, the head of the Society of Transcarpathian Roma Yosyp Adam, representatives of the International Foundation "Renaissance".
The Romani population in Transcarpathia densely inhabit Uzhgorod, Beregovo, Mukachevo, Vynogradiv, Velyky Berezny districts, cities of Uzhgorod, Beregovo, Mukachevo and Khust. There are 18 Roma NGOs in the region.
The passportization of the Roma population is being actively implemented in Transcarpathian region. Overall, during 2012, 1041 persons received passports of citizen of Ukraine, 68 Roma received passports to travel abroad. This year, 1,272 passports of citizen of Ukraine have already been issued.
Also, the conditions for Roma education have been created in the region. More than 8000 Roma students are enrolled in 155 schools Local Roma public organizations implement a number of international grant projects on the legal protection of Roma population.
