Out of ignorance or indifference: a unique bas-relief on the building of a former cinema was destroyed in Transcarpathia (PHOTOS)

In Transcarpathian region, a unique bas-relief on the building of a former cinema was destroyed, it happened as part of the renovation of old buildings. This was reported by the Ukrainian Modernism.

The Volovets District State Administration initiated the conversion of the former "Verkhovyna" cinema into a sports complex. The cost of the project is UAH 5 million. The building was insulated and the bas-relief on the facade was destroyed.

“During the reconstruction, a unique work of monumental art that adorned the facade of the cinema was destroyed. We fully support the revitalization of abandoned buildings – but how can we ignore and destroy works of art during renovations? The project worth UAH 5 million could and should have provided for the preservation of the valuable work, which was in perfect condition. This systemic problem needs to be addressed. For our money, officials – out of ignorance or indifference – destroy our culture," – the Ukrainian Modernism page reads.
