Autumn weather is not an obstacle to extreme sports, but the cycling orienteering competitive season in still slowly coming to an end. One of the recent competitions of this year was the championship of Ukraine, which took place from 21 to 24 of September under difficult weather conditions in the woods near Novomoskovsk in Dnipropetrovsk region. It was the first start that followed the World Championship in Estonia. Ukrainians came back from the north of Europe without medals, but in a good mood: personal results of all team members have improved
dramatically, almost every one of them, despite the young age, had a real chance to achieve success which was prevented by a lack of competitive experience.
More than 80 athletes from Ukraine and Russia gathered in Novomoskovsk. All members of the Transcarpathian team (our region was represented by only three athletes – students of Mukachevo SC "Tovarysh") returned home with awards. 19-year-old freshman at Lviv National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnologies Oleksandr Kasyanov, who at the World Championship came tenth, confidently won the prologue and in the middle distance handicaps and won the bronze medal on the long track, 16-year-old 11-grader of the school number 6 Nataliya Shozda twice – in sprint and on middle distance – finished the third, and 18 -year-old freshman of Uzhgorod National University Vasyl Morozov with incredible efforts finished the handicap race with the best time of the day and, starting from the seventh position, managed to win the bronze medal.
