As uzhgorod.in already informed, today two old wooden churches in Transcarpathia were officially included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Those are the Church of the Ascension (Strukiv) in the village of Yasinya in Rakhiv district and the church of St. Michael in Uzhok, Velyky Berezny district. This event for Transcarpathia means that our churches have received worldwide recognition. And hence, not only respect, but also protection.
Defender and researcher of Transcarpathian wooden churches Mykhailo Syrokhman said to uzhgorod.in, that, in his opinion, Transcarpathian wooden churches should have been included to the UNESCO World Heritage back in the 1990s – it would have contributed to their preservation and would have finally deservedly made them a symbol of the region. "Well, better late than never. And I’m glad about their choice. These churches are truly worthy of global recognition."
As you know, it is better to see once … So, until there are no new photos, see photos from the archives of Serhiy Hudak.
