Only one volcanic lake is left in the Carpathians (PHOTOS)

Only one lake of volcanic origin is left in the Carpathians – the Morske Oko (Sea Eye) in the village of Lypovets in Khust district. The other two have virtually disappeared. The Synye Lake has become a swamp, the second one – Vorochivske has already dried up. 

The mountain Morske Oko lake is located at an altitude of 526 meters above sea level. It is unique because it never freezes, and no river or stream flows in or out of it.  The lake is a hydrological natural monument of local importance – it has both a landscape and a historical value. Its diameter is about 20 meters and the depth, as indicated in the index, is 45 meters. This year, the head of Lypovets village Ivan Hubal says, community activists together with rescuers tried to measure the depth, but they were not successful, because the volcanic rift, from which the lake is filled with water, begins at the depth of 12 meters. And divers could not get there.

Ivan Hubal says that more and more tourists come there every year. A fantastic view of the valley, where the village lies, opens from the coast of the Morske Oko.
