The beginning of August is the time when a unique phenomenon can be observed in Transcarpathia – dozens of people soaring into the air from the mountain slopes. They do this with just one wing – a paraglider.
Thus, yesterday, August 3, in the Borzhava valleys near the village of Pylypets in Mizhhirya district, there were training flights of paragliders within the annual competition – the Cup of Carpathians in paraplane sport. This year, some 70 participants from Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Poland, Russia, Slovakia registered to participate in the competition.
Mr. Oleg from Lviv has come to the Cup of Carpathians not for the first time. He says that he started doing paragliding 5 years ago. "This sport is quite affordable. In Lviv more and more people are becoming intrested in it. We train on a small hill. Now, there are so many people wanting to fly, that sometimes it is difficult not to run into each other," – Mr. Oleg said on the way to Pylypets. He also expressed his surprise at the fact that despite the unique favorable conditions, in Transcarpathia this sport is much less developed and popular than in many other regions of Ukraine.
August 3, dozens of paragliders soared in the sky over Pylypets. See the spectacular shots of flights from the first, training, competition day. There is still time to enjoy the spectacle live. The competition will continue until August 11.
