“One person out of six can become a victim of stroke

Every other second someone in the world suffers from stroke, and every sixth second someone’s life is interrupted as a result of stroke.

Every year more people die from stroke than from AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria combined. Stroke is not only the cause of death, but also a major cause of functional disability and loss of independence in everyday life. 

June 6-8, 2013, the scientific and educational project for professionals – the School of Clinical Neurosciences "Carpathian reading" – launches in Uzhgorod.

Before the opening of the "Carpathian reading" on June 6 at 11:00 am in the lobby of the regional music and drama theater there will be a press conference.

Ukrainian public organization "Ukrainian association against stroke," supporting the initiative of the World Stroke Organization continues to conduct educational and preventive programs "Stop Stroke" for the public and medics of Ukraine.

Traditionally, every year the "Stop Stroke" campaign starts in Uzhgorod.  The following measures are planned:

1.  Press conference with leading experts and representatives of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration and Health Department dedicated to solving the problem of heart diseases in Transcarpathia on 6 June 2013 from 11.00 to 12.00 at the Transcarpathian Regional State Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater (3rd floor). 

2.  Educational and preventive campaign "Stop Stroke – 2013" dedicated to defining the major risk factors for stroke among the population (measuring of pressure, blood sugar levels)

The event will take place on June 7, 2013

from 11.00 to 13.00. – for employees of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration and Uzhgorod City Hall (in the lobby of relevant institutions).

From 13.30 to 15.00 – for everyone on Teatralna Square in Uzhgorod.

The conference Carpathian Reading – 2013 will be attended by the world-renowned neurologist, editor of the scientific "International journal of Stroke", which has been published in Ukraine since 2010, Prof.Geoff Donnan, Australia.Professor Donnan will hold for Ukrainian specialists the International School Management of stroke based on European Stroke Conference 2013, May, 28-31, London, UK.

During the "Stop Stroke" campaign, volunteers, doctors of Transcarpathian Regional Health Center will be conducting educational activities among the public on the basics of preventive medicine, healthy lifestyles and combating illnesses that affect the cardiovascular system, namely free:

– Measurement of blood pressure and blood sugar.

– Distribution of educational materials.

The "Stop-stroke" program is intended to draw attention to the problem of stroke and distribution of risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. To achieve success in the prevention of stroke and dissemination of knowledge about stroke, they created a special website to provide more information to all whom it concerns www. insult.net.ua.
