Over the past two days, about 120 mm of precipitation (monthly rate) has fallen in Transcarpathia. The lion’s share of rain on the night before Thursday affected the territory of the Uzh river basin (Velyky Berezny, Perechyn and Uzhgorod districts).
– In the tributary of the Uzh – the Turya river, near the village of Turya Pasika – on the night before Thursday, the water level rised above the historical maximum – 349.8 cm relative to the zero of gauge, – the acting head of the Regional State Administration Yaroslav Halas says. – Prreviously, the highest water level was recorded during the catastrophic flood in 1998 – 348 cm relative to zero of gauge. Water continues to rise, but the worst thing is that a new wave of precipitation is expected in the coming hours. The lion’s share of rain will again affect Velyky Berezny, Perechyn and Uzhgorod districts. Within five hours, there will be another 45 mm of precipitation, that is, the 1.5-week rate. The rains will stop only around 12.00 on Thursday.
Emergencies are expected: local mudflows and landslides, flooding of settlements. The villages of the Turya valley (Turya Polyana, Poroshkovo, Turya Pasika, Turya Remeta, Simer), as well as villages of Uzhgorod district downstream of the Uzh are in the risk zone. The cities of Perechyn and Uzhgorod (right bank part) are also under the threat of partial flooding.
Today, at 3 am, there was an urgent meeting of the Operational Headquarters of the Regional Commission on Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergencies, where the protocol with specific instructions for the district state administrations, local self-government bodies, the regional offices of the State Emergencies Service, the Tisa river water resources, National Police, Road Service was adopted.
