Following the bears at the rehabilitation center, the birds in Uzhgorod have had off-springs too, the ProZahid informs.
Thus, these days, in addition to swans, two female mallards with their broods can be seen on the Kirpichka lake in Uzhgorod. The birds are not timid, they swim to the shore and willingly pose for the audience.
Ornithologist Oksana Stankevich-Volosyanchuk commented, "Mallards are quite urbanized birds. They like bodies of water near people and sometimes their nests can be found in very unexpected places such as attics. It’s easier for them to find food near people. They do not nest on the river, because our banks are open, almost no vegetation. And on the Kirpichka lake, the shores are overgrown with cattail. That is the ideal environment for these birds. Occasionally, water hens and bitterns nest here too. But those are very elusive birds. If they are constantly disturbed by people, they avoid nesting in such places."
