On March 1, a new 1,000 forints banknote was introduced in neighboring Hungary

On March 1st, the National Bank of Hungary introduced a new 1000 forints banknote, the Myhungary.net reported. In accordance with the bill passed last summer, the National Bank has developed a new bill with improved security features, and on March 1, this banknote became a legitimate means of payment. Starting November 1, 2018, the old banknotes of 1,000 forints will be withdrawn from circulation. They can be exchanged free of charge in banks and post offices for the next three years, and in the central bank until October 31, 2038.

The heraldic design of the bill contains a portrait of King Matthias I Corvinus on the front and the Hercules fountain from the Visegrad castle on the back of the banknote. At the end of 2014, the National Bank of Hungary already updated the HUF 10,000 banknotes, and on January 1, 2017, the Central Bank of Hungary began the exchange of HUF 20,000 notes issued before 2015. On August 1, last year, new HUF 5,000 and 2,000 HUF banknotes were put in circulation.
