On election day Ukraine will switch to the winter time

In Ukraine, October 28, 2012 at 4 pm the summer time shall be canceled by resetting the clock 1 hour back.

This will be done according to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dd. May 13, 1996 № 509 "On the computation of time on the territory of Ukraine."

"The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decides to introduce in Ukraine the following method of time calculation: time shall be of the second time zone (Kyiv time) with annual resetting of the clock one hour forward on the last Sunday of March at 3 o’clock, and one hour back on the last Sunday of October at 4 o’clock" – reads the resolution.

September 20, 2011 the Parliament decided to abolish the switch to the winter time. However, this decision caused a flurry of discontent, and the decision was canceled.

Note: The first time clocks were reset one hour forward in the summer and one hour back in the winter was in 1908 in the UK to save energy.

Now switching to summer time is used in more than 110 countries. However, some countries refused to switch to summer and winter time, including a number of former Soviet republics. Seasonal resetting of clocks has been canceled, notably in Russia, Estonia, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Japan, China and Singapore.
