Unlike other regions of Ukraine, Transcarpathia is almost completely provided with donated blood. This was announced to Panorama Mukachevo by the regional blood transfusion station chief doctor Oleg Shchadei. ‘Over the last 10-15 years the number of donors was relatively low, after the Soviet period decreased in twice, but this situation started to change for better for the last three years’, – assured the doctor. The superiority in this case belongs to Mukachevo then Vynogradiv and Rakhiv district, according to Oleg Shchadei. Uzhgorod is also among leaders.
The majority of donors donate for free. Student, power structures’ employees, various public organizations’ representatives join more often in recent years. Each donor receives a financial compensation for recuperation – 14 hryvnia and people with a difficult financial position who often becomes paid donors can receive 16 hryvnia per one hundred grams of blood.
However, according to Oleg Shchadei, donation is not a commercial thing: ‘This must become the need for each of us to do a good work’.
