At the briefing, the Head of the Regional Department of Urban Development and Architecture Mykola Pihulyak talked about the meeting of Architecture and Urban Development Council, held on April 2.
The main issue at the meeting was the project for reconstruction of Narodna Square in the city of Uzhgorod. The Council consists of 18 members, the meeting was attended by 15 of them.
The Architecture and Art Council (two meetings of this council were held prior to the urban development concil) considers the concept, ideas. It is attended by architects, artists, ie people who assess the very concept. The Urban Development Council is created at the government body.More than 50% of the council members are architects.
– In our urban development council there are about 60% of them. Of those architects, who were present, 4 votes "for", one abstained, one voted "against". So the urban development council approved the project. We consulted with the Department of Culture concerning the preservation of the historical monument. So I can say that, currently even the boundaries of this monument have not been established, even now they use Soviet standards in this regard. This also requires rearrangement, – Mykola Pihulyak said.
During the briefing Mykola Pihulyak demonstrated the project of Czech architect Krupka.
– This design decision of Krupka is completely different from what it is now. Please note, the green lawn is only 15 meters, on both sides there are two wide streets. The current lawn is several times larger. The project was not implemented, ie, the square in its present form does not meet the then architects architectural design – it is actually an unfinished version of it.
The project approved by the Council provides for the planting of 60% of the square. 80% of the funding will be received from the state budget.
