Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in Uzhgorod will be re-opened

This was written by the Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Ivanna Klimpush-Tsintsadze on her Facebook page:

"I welcome the long-delayed decision of the Cabinet of Ministers on reopening of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office in Uzhgorod. I am glad that the Government has supported the proposal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and soon the office will resume its work.

I remind you that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Uzhgorod was closed by "vision-makers" in 2010 – within the framework of the so-called budget optimization of expenditures for the work of ministries and departments.

It’s no secret that one of the main causes of problems with the reaction to the "language" article of the education law by our neighbors and, accordingly, by national minorities was the institutional weakness and the decades-old poor work of the central and local authorities in the region.

One representative office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, obviously, will not be able to solve all the tasks, but it is a step in the right direction, which enhances the responsible implementation of the state policy and strengthens the protection of the country’s national interests. After all, office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a region bordering on four European countries with 18 border crossing points, several diplomatic institutions of foreign countries, is simply a vital necessity. I believe that such actions of the Government will be a good signal for all citizens of Transcarpathia, regardless of nationality, and for our European partners."
