February 6, at the press conference in Uzghorod Press Club, the Chief of the State Tax Service in Uzhgorod Maria Badyda talked about the procedure for payment of the real property tax, and what consequences await for those who would evade the tax.
Maria Badyda said that as of January 1 of this year, the real property tax came into force. Any citizens’ residential area exceeding 120 square meters (apartments) and 250 square meters (houses) shall be subject to taxation. The residential area is not added together, if a citizen owns several apartments, residential area of which does not exceed 120 sq.m. For example, a citizen has two apartments of 50 sq.m. each. He or she will still pay the tax for only one of them.
In addition, tax benefits are provided. However, if a citizen, for example, owns two apartments, the benefit is granted only for one of them. Rates of the property tax are 1% and 2.7% of the minimum wage as of January 1, 2013 (1147.00) depending on the living space of the object of taxation – 11.47 UAH and 30, 97 UAH. Legal entities that have housing on the balance sheet do not receive benefits. The tax must be paid within 60 days from July 1, 2013
Maria Badyda noted that in the case of non-payment of the property tax, the legislator has provided severe sanctions, even including the confiscation of housing.
