Given the publicity around the topic of standardized testing and attempts of some politicians to discredit the system of external testing, during June 2013 NGO OPORA conducted independent monitoring of EIT procedures in order to be able to objectively evaluate the testing process.

In general, according to Svyatoslav Babilya 11 observers were involved into the observation campaign of NGO OPORA in Transcarpathian region which covered 4 districts (Uzhgorod, Mukachevo, Khust, Vinogradiv). We observed the EIT in ten subjects: Chemistry, Ukrainian Language and Literature (two sessions), foreign language, Russian language, mathematics (two sessions), Geography, History of Ukraine (two sessions), physics, biology and world literature.

"This year’s campaign was exemplary – said the coordinator of the campaign – the only innovation was the introduction of clearly defined procedures for metal detectors usage, which made the use of mobile phones during testing impossible."The number of applicants without necessary documents to participate in the EIT had significantly reduced, indicating the quality of infomation campaign and more responsible students. Also one of the year’s results is high enough discipline of the students. Thus, for the entire period of EIT in Transcarpathian region we recorded only 8 cases when applicants were deprived of the right to write tests due to phone usage (1 case in Uzhgorod, and 2 in Mukachevo, Khust and Vynogradiv), 4 at Ukrainian language and literature, 2 – Math 1 – Chemistry 1 – English.

As for the attendance, this year we saw the lowest number of applicants who were passing the tests on world history (82.86%) and the highest – in the Ukrainian language and literature, during the first session (92.25%).
Lubomyra Megela, the deputy director of the Transcarpathian Postgraduate Institute, responsible for the EIT in Transcarpathian region, said that the staff responsible for the EIT worked friendly, perfectly knowing the job. "It’s a shame that there were 8 violators. This year they will not be able to pass the same exam, – said Lubomyra Megela. – Testing was done, scores are available at the personal pages of entrants at the test portal. I wish everybody success to become a good student and a good professional. "
