Today, June 7, a medical center “Pokrov” (“Intercession”) was opened in Uzhgorod. The chairman of the regional council Ivan Baloga, clergy of the region and the medical community took part in the solemn event, reports the press service of the regional council.
The new medical facility has been founded by the representatives of the Orthodox clergy, coming from the United States. One of the founders of the center – Archimandrite Gregory, who is in charge of an overseas monastic brotherhood, said the project had started three years ago, when the priests received the land for construction. Archbishop of Mukachevo and Uzhgorod Theodore said that the fact that the medical center has been set up by representatives of the clergy is a rarity in Ukraine. "Fellow countrymen will be able to heal not only physical but spiritual wounds," – said the priest.
The new medical facility is a compact hospital with an outpatient diagnostic unit on the first floor, two intensive care units and operating food unit – on the second, in-patient department with comfortable double and single wards – on the third. All wards are equipped with air conditioning, Internet access, television, and individual bathrooms.
As the medical director of the institution Anatoly Timchenko said, medical center "Pokrov" offers a comprehensive approach to diagnosis, using the latest foreign equipment. It will be staffed with experts who have previously held an internship in leading European clinics.
The Chairman of the Regional Council Ivan Baloga noted that in the medical industry powerful centers are being opened. "The institution is founded by philanthropists who want Transcarpathians to have the opportunity to receive medical services of world class. This is an example of how to develop not only the public but also private medicine, after all it is an alternative on which local people have an absolute right",- Ivan Baloga concluded.
