New literary award – Petro Skunts Prize – was established in Uzhgorod

Uzhgorod deputies by 34 votes supported the draft decision on the establishment of the annual city Petro Skunts Prize for the best work in two areas – literature and local history.

By the same decision, they also approved the Regulations on the Prize and the commission which will be electing the winners.

So, the City Petro Skunts Prize is established by Uzhgorod city council to perpetuate the memory of outstanding Transcarpathian writer, publicist and public figure, winner of the National Taras Shevchenko Prize, honorary citizen of the city of Uzhgorod Petro Skunts. The Prize shall be awarded to writers and historians, whose works popularize Uzhgorod city, its history and present, prominent Uzhgorod residents.

The grand awarding will take place during the celebration of the Day of Uzhgorod. It will be awarded for highly artistic works published over the last three years, but no later than three months prior to their nomination for the Prize, that have become a notable phenomenon in literature or local history.
