A lavender flower bed, which will bloom in May-June, has been planted in the courtyard of Uzhgorod Castle (also the main museum of Transcarpathia).
Fine fragrant flowers are intended to be not just an ornament in the Transcarpathian local lore museum, but also a new tourist attraction. Saffron on mountain meadows, wild daffodils near Khust, Uzhgorod sakuras – and now lavender in the castle joins the list of the flower celebrities of Transcarpathia.
50 bushes of elegant flower, the symbol of Provence, were planted by students of tourism department of Uzhgorod National University. The campaign "Lavender Castle" was initiated by tourism expert and activist Fedir Shandor.
The restaurant "Uzhgorod castle" on this occasion presented a whole "bouquet" – the lavender menu. "Lavender" champagne (with appropriate syrup), chicken marinated in lavender with grilled vegetables, lavender macaroons, themed souvenir cakes and lavender tea – elegant and delicious.
"The lavender is not just beautiful. It is a special plant, which is used in gastronomy and perfumes because of its distinct pleasant aroma. It is a syrup used by confectioners, it is a spice, it is flavoring for food and drinks, it is a fragrance for rooms. In addition, this beautiful flower has soothing properties. And it is quite needed nowadays – for all of us and for tourists, "- Fedir Shandor said.
