Nevytsky castle surrounded by summer greenery in Uzhgorod district (VIDEO)

Nevytsky Castle is located near the settlements of Kamyanytsia and Nevytske of Uzhgorod district, twelve kilometers north of Uzhgorod.

The palace had 31 rooms with a total area of about 1000 square meters. On the side facing the mountains, the castle buildings were surrounded by an earthen rampart and a deep ditch dug in the rock. The outer wall of the castle with four towers was located near them.
In general, the history of the fortifications dates back to the 13th-14th centuries, but its functioning as a castle was first recorded in written sources at the beginning of the 14th century. In 1279, the Hungarian king Laszlo IV (1274 – 1290) transferred all the possessions of the Ung committee to the Transylvanian voivode Finta of the Abo family. During its history, Nevytsky Castle has had many rulers, but for the longest time it was owned by the Druget family, who were the owners of many lands of present-day Transcarpathia.
In 1644, György Rakoczi, who opposed the Austrian ruler, attacked the lands of his supporters – the Drugets, captured Nevytsky Castle and ordered the destruction of the walls.
