The number of border crossings, registered by inspectors of the Chop customs only in July this year, is more than 882 thousand people. This indicates that the holidays season is in full swing and Transcarpathians go to rest abroad and foreign tourists visit our region. Therefore, in order to avoid misunderstandings on entry to Ukraine, citizens of other countries, and Ukrainian, who return from abroad, should know what things under Ukrainian legislation are recognized as personal and are allowed to be carried across the border.
Personal care, individual cosmetics, personal clothing, underwear, shoes, jewelry and other items, which according to Article 370 of the Customs Code of Ukraine belong to personal things can be carried across the border, without declaring them and without payment of customs duties. Personal things also include medicines and baby food. Their import into the customs territory of Ukraine is subject to certain limitations as defined by the decree of the Cabinet of Ministers. Namely, at the entrance to Ukraine, citizens should know that medicinal drugs can be carried in hand luggage or in accompanied or unaccompanied baggage. This applies to drugs that are sold without a prescription and transported in a quantity not exceeding five packs of each item per person; in the presence of a doctor’s prescription the quantity may correspond to that specified in the same recipe, issued in the name of the person and stamped by physician and / or health institution. Medicines containing narcotic or psychotropic substances are subject to special procedure of transportation across the customs border. Narcotic or psychotropic drugs may be transported if they are acquired under a doctor’s prescription and the person carrying them has a prescription issued by a medical institution.
The import of special infant formula are subject to the same rules as that for drugs. However, it can be transported by parents, relatives or other individuals who have permission to do so. In order to carry such goods one must have a prescription made out to the child and the document to certify family relation.
