An eight-year-old Arthur Klovanich from Verkhniy Koropets in Mukachevo district won silver in his category (30 kg) at the World Championship in Kyokushinkai Karate, which was held on May 11-13 in the Hungarian city Sentesh.
As the head of the Transcarpathian Kyokushinkai Karate Federation, the owner of the black belt third dan rank Igor Kapoora told “Zamok”, at the contest Ukraine was presented by six athletes from the city over Latorica and the district.
Bouts lasted two days from morning until midnight. Therefore, in anticipation of fights, along with skills the sportsmen needed to have strong moderation. The event brought together about 500 participants from 17 countries of the world. Very young athletes, juniors and adults competed in different weight and age categories.
Among them, along with Arthur, third places were awarded to our Kristina Babilya from Mukachevo (16 years old, 55 kg) and Sergey Dyakov from Bobovishche (10-11 years old, 30 kg). Also, the 5th place (in this sport first 8 places are considered to be prize places) was given to Igor Kapoora. Two more 13-year-old boys from Mukachevo – Yuri Kotubey and Edgar Osypov – also showed very good results at these prestigious competitions. As to the overall development of the sport in the region, Igor Kapoora said that like in most cases with sport in our country the main problem is financing. First of all it comes of the participants’ pockets, and in the case with children – from their parents. Therefore, each trip for a competition, which provides invaluable experience becomes a big problem. Also, according to the coach, it is important that local authorities, even if they cannot help financially at least they should honor the athletes for their achievements, because they defend the honor of the district or city, region and Ukraine as a whole. Especially this attention is important for young winners.
