Most Transcarpathians want to adopt children up to 5 years old

The vast majority of families, who are willing to adopt in Transcarpathia, want children up to 5 years old.

Meanwhile, the vast majority of children subject to adoption are over 6 years old.

As of September 1, there are 2365 orphans and children deprived of parental care registered with services for children in Transcarpathia (0.8 percent of the total number of children in the region). 648 of them (or 27.4%) are subject to adoption. These data were presented at the briefing of the Head of the Service for Children Svitlana Yakimelina.

– The vast majority of children subject to adoption are over 6 years old (96.6% or 626 children), while the vast majority of families, who are willing to adopt, want children up to 5 years old – S.Yakimelina said.

In total, during 9 months of this year, 48 children have been adopted in the region, including 39 – by citizens of Ukraine, and 9 – by foreigners.  Family ties have been preserved for 16 children from seven families. No adoption cancellations or invalidations of court rulings on adoption have occured in the region.
