More than 80 packages of contraband cigarettes were found in Transcarpathia

The systematic work to counter smuggling of tobacco products, including identification of places of their accumulation, continues in Transcarpathia. These activities are carried out in close cooperation of the State Border Guard Service with other law enforcement agencies.

In particular, 12 boxes of cigarettes were found by border guards at the site of the department "Dilove" of the Mukachevo Detachment. Border guards learned about the intentions of our compatriots to illegally smuggle cigarettes to Romania from their own sources. 200 meters away from the border, the response team found packages of cigarettes and one man who admitted that in return for money he had agreed to help a stranger to carry the cigarettes to neighboring Romania. The other offenders escaped.

Also, in Vynogradiv district, 70 packages of tobacco products were found in three private homes. The information about possible accumulation of cigarettes was received by officers of Mukachevo border guard detachment. The search, under the decision of the regional court of Uzhgorod, was carried out by a joint inter-agency group comprising of border guards, offcers of the Security Service and fiscal services. The cost of the found cigarettes is about 620,000 UAH.

The found tobacco products were seized by officers of the SFS. Most likely, the cigarettes were to be smuggled to Romania. Currently, the circle of persons involved in illegal activities is being identified.
