On April 1, in Uzhgorod, doctor Viktor Petrov visited four patients suspected of having COVID-19. Viktor is a city infectious disease specialist, receives patients in the office 58 of Uzhgorod city polyclinic, and heads the private medical center Prevention. Why did he visit four patients on his own to get samples for tests?
How did he do it, and what does he plan to do next? Viktor told it in the interview with the Varosh.
The website of the Uzhgorod City Council states that on March 29, 2020, Ukraine adopted the updated medical standards for the provision of medical care to patients with COVID-19. According to the health department, on March 30, mobile crews were set up to visit patients to collect material for testing for coronavirus and to send samples to the laboratory of especially hazardous research at the Transcarpathian Laboratory Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. This should significantly reduce the mobility of Uzhgorod residents who have symptoms of an acute viral disease and require appropriate test.
Petrov assures that in Uzhgorod mobile crew has not visited patients at home yet. This information was confirmed by Uzhgorod City Council.
So Viktor decided to finally try the whole algorithm.
“This algorithm was essentially tested for the first time, since no patient has been examined at home in Uzhgorod. These are the first four cases. My position is that if they do not start working on Thursday, it will be a big disaster for Uzhgorod."
The doctor says that this is his position – to show his patients that the city cares for them, as well as to show everyone else that it is possible to organize the work of mobile crews.
"So, my crew made visits yesterday to show others an example that we should finally do something, that we cannot leave these people alone – untested, unexamined."
According to Petrov, Uzhgorod is acting too slowly.
The doctor promises that the crew from the Prevention Medical Center, which he manages, is ready to make visits every Friday. He states that he has the necessary equipment. Together with the NGO "Medical Advocacy" Petrov is raising funds for the necessary equipment, and on Thursday he will deliver 200 protective suits to all hospitals in Uzhgorod.
The doctor also stresses that the testing is free of charge and should always be free of charge.
