The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other authorities are carrying out complex work to introduce visa-free travel regime to the EU for citizens of Ukraine.
This is stated by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
An important element of the second phase of the Action Plan to liberalize the EU visa regime for Ukraine will be the introduction of "biometric" passports, that will be issue starting from January 2015.
However, citizens of Ukraine will be able to travel to Schengen countries without visas using "biometric" passports only after the the European Commission decides that Ukraine has fulfilled all the criteria of the second phase of the Action Plan.
In addition, the European Council and the European Parliament have to decide on the withdrawal of Ukraine from the list of countries with visa regime of entry and the inclusion of our country in the list of countries whose citizens do not need visas for short-term (90 days) travels to the Schengen countries.
"Please note that passports of a citizen of Ukraine for traveling abroad, issued before January 1, 2015, remain in force for the term they were issued for, and there is no need to replace them with new "biometric" ones", – the report states.
Citizens of Ukraine with valid Schengen visa in valid passports of the old model can enter the EU using these documents.
