Ministry of Education recommends to avoid scores for some school subjects

Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine recommends that teachers do not to score a number of subjects in elementary school.

"We offered a new standard which not only cancels the assessment of pupils’ achievement in the first grade, but also extends this practice to the individual subjects of primary school, namely: basic health, physical education, music, fine arts," Steps to IT science "- said the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Dmytro Tabachnyk, according to Interfax

  

At the same time, the minister explained that in many European countries, pupils of some classes are not given scores during the study.

"Let us examine our own experience, the experience of other countries, teach teachers and most importantly – convince teachers and ourselves that we can teach our children without the carrot-and-stick approach to at least some subjects in elementary school," – he said.

In addition, Tabachnyk said that primary school successfully moved to a new state standard for primary education in the early grades and is ready to its implementation in other classes.

"The intimidation to study foreign language from the first-class was wrong. Both teachers and students received everything necessary for this innovation, "- he said.

 

He also said that in 2013-2014 school year the second grade students will study ICT.
