Men turned out to be bigger liars than women

New research on people’s mendacity revealed incredible facts. In particular, on average a man lies three times a day, and in a year it makes more than a thousand times.

In comparison, women lie once a day.

The survey of more than 2,500 adults in the UK revealed that only 5% of respondents always tell the truth. 52% of men admit to lying three times a day, and 14% on average lie more than five times a day. In contrast, almost 60% of women reported that they lie just once a day. And only 17% lie three times.

Next, the researchers asked questions about what people lie about most often. And it turned out that women mostly lie about their emotions. 27% often say "I’m fine." As for men, their lies is of entirely different scale. 45% admitted that they regularly lie about what they had to do but did not. 71% of all respondents said they regularly lie to their friends, colleagues and family members to spare the feelings of the interlocutor.

The study was conducted on secret shopping site. The respondents were interviewed about whom both men and women lie more often. It turned out that it happens systematically at work, and they lie to supervisors (31%). Then – to their family members (27%), and then – to their partners (22%). Only 9% of women admitted that they regularly lie to their friends. As for men, 41% ot them lie to very close friends with surprising frequency. Women feel guilty after lying more often compared to men (62% of women vs. 23% of men).
