Measles is finally leaving Transcarpathia. Since last week, the number of new cases has decreased by another 21%.
In February 2019, there were 454 cases of measles against 620 in February 2018. During the last week, as of March 14, 52 cases of measles were registered, which is 21% less than in the previous week (52 against 63 cases). Among the infected people, children under 17 years old make up 71% (37 cases), adults – 29% (15 cases). Unvaccinated patients account for 79% (41 of 52 patients), those who have received one dose of vaccine -12%.
According to the head of the epidemiological surveillance and infectious diseases prevention department of the Transcarpathian Regional Laboratory Center of the MoH of Ukraine Victoria Tymchyk, the largest number of cases of measles is registered in the city of Uzhgorod – 13 and Vynogradiv district – 9.
In general, since the beginning of 2019, 1,324 cases of measles have been registered in the region. 853 patients are children under 17 years old (64.4%) and 471 are adults (35.6%).
Doctors reminded: vaccination is the only protection against measles!
