Despite the fact that Kosivska Polyana village council three (3) times denied the Maramarosh Company to grant the permit for the development of polymetallic ores in the village and despite appeals of the deputies to Rakhiv district council and the district administration, the "Maramorosh" Company continues to work.
According to community activist Mykola Kokish-Melnyk, yesterday, June 17, 2013, residents of the village of Kosivska Polyana in Rakhiv district blocked the road and stoped all the traffic demanding to not allow special vehicles of the "Maramorosh" Company to get to the work site. The resignation of the head of the village council is the second demand of the protesters. According to the community activist, there were 500-600 of them.
Today, more than a hundred people are watching the road. The initiative group from among the members of the village council initiated the procedure to pass a no confidence motion against the head of the Kosivska Polyana village council.
Rakhiv District Council Chairman Mr. M.Berkela met with the village community and confirmed that the Maramorosh company has the Transcarpathian Regional Council decision on granting a permit, but subject to approval of the community. As of today, the residents of Kosivska Polyana, supported by residents of neighboring villages, are totally against the development of polymetallic ores.
