Local elections may be delayed for two years

The option of holding local elections after the constitutional reform is being seriously considered now.

This was reported by the sources of the "Yevropeiska Pravda" close to the government.

Earlier, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland said that Ukraine should amend the Constitution before the local elections.

"Now there are two options. Either elections will be held under the old rules and within the old communities, or they will be postponed" – one of the sources of the "Yevropeiska Pravda" said.

It should be noted that after the publication of the article, this information was confirmed by the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on State Construction, Regional Policy and Local Government Serhiy Vlasenko.

He said the postponement of local elections for two years is being discussed, but there is no agreement on this.

"Personally, I am against such an option," – he said.

If the local elections are postponed for 2 years, Victor Pogorelov will remain the mayor of Uzhgorod for that time…
