Among other issues, group Save Uzhhorod plans to ask about the situation with the protection of objects of cultural heritage of Uzhgorod:
"It will soon be a year since the shameful demolition of the Fundanich’s house – there are many questions, there are still few answers. Therefore, we prepared only 2 questions:
1. Despite all the violations of the legislation and the lack of required approval of the project documentation from the Ministry of Culture, the city council has not revoked illegally issued permits for new construction – although there were all grounds for this.
Does the city mayor believe that in this illegal way the city authorities lobby the business interests of the developer, rather than the community and the city?
2. After the demolition of the building, there was the meeting of the Mayor with Uzhgorod residents, during which he promised to carry out the certification of the newly discovered objects of cultural heritage and make request for their inclusion in the Register. He also promised to establish in the city council a subdivision with the functions of a cultural heritage protection body, since we don’t have a department with such functions. It’s been almost a year.
How many buildings have been certified and registered during this time? Why is the establishment of a cultural heritage protection body impeded?"
