The Letter Writing Marathon is a global and annual campaign dedicated to Human Rights Day (December 10) and is held in more than 200 countries. Every year, thanks to the Marathon, unjustly convicted persons are freed, repressive laws are changed, and victims of human rights violations receive help.
Letter Writing Marathon 2016 takes place in Ukraine from November 19 until December 20 in more than 24 localities from Transcarpathia to Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
This year, one of the heroes of the Ukrainian Marathon is Erwin Ibragimov, Crimean Tatar activist kidnapped in May 2016 in the Crimea. Since then, his place of residence is unknown and the de facto authorities of Crimea are not conducting an effective investigation.
Uzhgorod joined this large-scale human rights campaign for the first time. In the reading room of the main regional library, Uzhgorod citizens not only wrote letters, but also signed petitions to help unjustly imprisoned people from around the world.
By the way, those, who could not attend the marathon and write a letter or sign a petition, can do it in the Regional Library (Svoboda Ave., 16, 3rd floor) until December 15.
