Lemons and desert cacti are grown in Uzhgorod district (PHOTOS)

Someone grows kiwi, persimmon and other exotic fruits, and 66-year-old Justina Monda from the village of Serednye has bred not only a 2 meters high lemon tree, but also several species of cactus. In her mature years, the woman not only manages her household and livestock, but even handles a half hectare of land, and in the evenings enjoys desert plants that have taken root in the yard of the caring mistress…

They grow mainly in the desert, and now they can be found in an ordinary household in the Transcarpathian village. The height of some of them is impressive – more than three meters.   The mistress does not know their names and origins, but knows how to take care and enjoy the lush flowering.

Thanks to the long roots and thick stems, cacti collect moisture and can endure great drought. "In the summer, when the heat is strong, I have to water cacti every night, because they live not in the ground but in pots," the mistress says. Before frost, just three weeks ago, her son and herself put them to the pothouse for hibernation until April.

And the lemon tree is 20 years old. Twice a year, it bears fruits. This year’s harvest was one hundred natural lemons. In the winter period, the bulky tree is put on the porch, and by New Year, the mistress has another lemon harvest.
