Often, the textiles in the hands of a master are transformed into an expression tool. Clothing may be not just a garment with a decorative or utilitarian function, a stripe, embroidery or pattern may be not just a beautiful element or detail; a piece of fabric can suddenly turn into an activist banner. This is what clothing and textiles can be seen as by people practicing craftivism.
What is craftivism and who is it for? On March 16 at 5:00 pm, Tonya Melnyk and Masha Lukyanova will talk about the activities of two sewing co-operatives, ReSew and Shvema, and how members of these initiatives work with clothing and textiles to apply craft practices in their activities. Over the following three days, the artists will hold a final workshop "Creating a Textile Book" as part of the "Library unites people" project.
