Kyivites are taking over historical monuments of Uzhgorod

Social activist, human rights defender Vitaliy Gregor calls journalists and activists to come on September 30 at the "auction" as a result of which the building of the former Jewish synagogue, located in the historic center of the city, can be taken over by private company.

As you know, September 7, almost all copies of the newspaper "Europa Center" № 36 (714) of September 6, 2013 disappeared from points of sale. "After reading the content of the newspaper, we found out that the only logical reason for this was the fact that this issue of the newspaper contained an advertisement of Kyiv "Universal commodity exchange" about the sale of municipal property of villages, towns and cities of Transcarpathian region.

Our attention was drawn particularly to the Lot number 3 – the administrative building in area of 976 sq. m. located at: Uzhgorod, Zhupanatska st., 17 (lot number 3) with the starting price of 3,867,528 UAH, while the market price is about 20 million" – the author writes.

Citing a number of legal grounds for such allegations, the human rights activist sums up: "In fact, without the knowledge and consent of the Transcarpathian Regional Council, Kyiv "Universal commodity exchange" in their own premises (the city of Uzhgorod, Narodna Square, 4, conference hall) brazenly try to hold the auction on September 30, 2013 at 11:00." The Regional Council also recognized this fact.

Thus, in the letter from their executive office dd. 26.09.2013 to the Department of communal property of the RSA and the "Universal commodity exchange", they demanded "in order to prevent violations of the law and the illegal sale of the building at: Uzhgorod, Zhupanatska 17, please cancel the auction to be held on September 30, 2013."

In conclusion, Vitaliy Gregor hopes that the competent authorities will give due assessment of those obviously unlawful acts of the "Universal commodity exchange", and will take all necessary measures for immediate response, in particular, to prevent the illegal auction.
