Kostyantin Sas has passed away

Kostyantin Sas – a professional of the highest grade, well-known tourist and local historian – passed away on August 4, 2019, at the age of 84.

Kostyantin Sas worked at the Transcarpathian Center for Tourism, Local History, Excursions and Sports of Student Youth for 52 years ending his career as the Deputy Director for Educational Work.

Has trained about 30 well-known of tourism instructors, orienteering and sports tourism coaches.

After graduation from Uzhgorod State University, he worked as a teacher in Zhdeniyevo and Domanyntsi schools, in the sanatorium "Malyatko" in Onokivtsi, and in 1961 he started to collaborate with the Transcarpathian Tourism Center, which at that time was the Station for Young Tourists. In 1964, Kostyantin Sas went to work at the of Tourism Center.

In 1963, with the assistance of Kostyantin Sas, the I All-Union Orienteering Competition took place in Uzhgorod. About 450 athletes from all over the Soviet Union took part in it.

Kostyantin Sas was a talented leader of clubs, the pupils loved and respected him. He also created the museum at the Transcarpathian Center for Tourism, and was collecting exhibits for it all his life.

Tourism was Kostyantin Sas’s life. First, he learning himself, then teaching others. He was doing what he knew and loved to do.

The memory of this kind, sincere, decent and talented person will live in our hearts…
