In Ukraine the Day of Danube, which is annually celebrated in the countries with the basin of this river on June 29, will be celebrated with the help of environmental and cultural activities in the village of Kvasovo in Beregovo district, Transcarpathian region.
This was informed by the representative of the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR) in Ukraine Olena Marushevska at the Ministry of Internal Affairs press club meeting on Thursday.
‘We are planning a really great program celebration on the Day of Danube in Transcarpathia’, – said Marushevska.
Among a number of the festive events she specified the contest of works made from natural and artificial materials, which can be found on the rivers banks, song contest on the environmental subjects ‘Vodograi’ and the flying kites competition ‘Doletity do Dunayu’ (‘To reach the Danube’).
Besides, the bullheads’ slipping into the river Borzhava, that falls into one of the largest Danube’s tributaries – the Tysa river event, will be organized in order to restore the fish population. 200 children from different Transcarpathian districts will participate in the event.
Marushevska stressed that the Day of the Danube is a joint Pan-European environmental festival which is held in all the 14 Danube region countries simultaneously. ‘Children gather at the festivals or environmental camps and adults hold the round table discussions in all the countries of the river basin in one day. What is the most important is that all together think about a common problem’, – she pointed out.
This year’s celebration is aimed at the Ukrainian environmental culture increasing and ICPDR organization is supported by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Transcarpathian Regional Administration.
