A good theatrical production in Uzhgorod is, unfortunately, quite a rare phenomenon. All the more reasons to be glad when interesting companies come to the city. These days, Uzhgorod got lucky. The "Theater in the Basket" with its almost legendary "Richard" is touring in the city.
The show "Richard after Richard" performed by Lydia Danylchuk and directed by Irina Volytska based on "one of the most famous and most cursed works" of Shakespeare is an hour of pure and wise art.
The actress plays the character of the ruthless king, shows the tragedies caused by the desire to rule no matter what and the pain caused by flashes of repressed conscience.
The great work of the British classic is presented in a relatively small form and the focus is on the soul of the king. The victims of his desire for the crown in the play are represented by cabbage heads that Richard carries and cuts with his knife.
Another original feature of the performance was the venue: the show was presented in Uzhgorod castle, on a small stage in one of the rooms near the casemates.
The "Theater in the Basket" came at the invitation of a theater fan, the chief editor of the newspaper "Nedilya" Mykhailo Nosa. But he has an even more serious and ambitious idea – to organize a theater festival in Uzhgorod. Mrs. Lydia, as an actress who plays mostly in solo performances, says that it is an excellent idea very fitting to our city. The artist says that solo performance actors would be happy to come to Uzhgorod.
Today, the "Theater in the Basket" will present its concentrated art to Uzhgorod audience – the performance "Richard after Richard" will take place in the theater "Bavka" (Transcarpathian Regional Puppet Theater on Teatralna Square) on 18.00, and you do not want to miss it.
