Khust production department of water and sewage company poured sewage into the river – the Prosecutor demands compensation for damages

Khust Interdistrict Prosecutor submitted the petition to the mayor to address violations of the Water Code of Ukraine, the Law of Ukraine "On Environmental Protection" and to compensate for damages.

The inspection conducted by prosecutors in Khust city council revealed that teh State Environmental Inspectorate in Transcarpathian region had sent the head of the Khust production department of water and sewage company (PDWSC) a claim for voluntary compensation for damages.

The fact is that last year, experts revealed the discharge of waste water into the river in the city of Khust. However, local PDWSC never recovered the damage.

According to the Khust Interdistrict Prosecutor Ivan Kailo, the State Ecological Inspectorate in Transcarpathian region has repeatedly sent the management of the PDWSC claims for compensation for the above damages, however, those claims were unreasonably ignored. In addition, the revealed violations of legislation also violated citizens’ right to safe and harmless living conditions, water quality and regulatory water supply and may have caused health harm and led to disease. In addition, the omission of employees of the Khust PDWSC leads to non-receipt of funds in the budget – the press-service of the Prosecutor of Transcarpathian region reported.
