The man did not believe a phone swindler that his son was in trouble and refused to pay him money to "save" his son.
Recently, a 65-year-old resident of Khust reported to the city police that an unknown man had called him and introduced himself as a police officer.
The stranger said that the man’s son had been arrested for drug trafficking and began demanding from him a large sum of money for releasing his son from prosecution.
Fortunately, the pensioner decided to check the information, and immediately called his son. As it turned out, the latter was at work, and had had no incident with the police. The pensioner, realizing that he had been talking with a scammer, immediately notified the police.
Currently, the police are searching for the swindler. The investigator opened the criminal proceeding over this fact under Part 1 Art. 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (fraud). This offense is punishable by imprisonment for up to three years.
– If anyone calls and demands to pay a certain sum of money for exemption of your family members from criminal or administrative responsibility – make no mistake, they are scammers, so please call "102" immediately – the chief of Khust city police Vasyl Turday advises.
