Four illegal migrants from South Asia and their probable transporter were detained last night by border guards of the Mukachevo detachment together with the National Police.
Police stopped a "Volkswagen" with illegal immigrants in the village of Shyroke in Vynogradiv district. The car was driven by a 28-year-old resident of Kryvyi Rih. In addition to the driver, there were four undocumented people in the vehicle, three of whom said they were Sri Lankan nationals, and another identified himself as a Bangladeshi national.
Investigative actions are underway, and the persons involved in organizing the illegal journey of the foreigners are being identifed. The man, who was transporting illegal migrants, is charged with a crime under Art. 332 of the Criminal Code "Illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine". If the Ukrainian’s guilt is proven, he faces imprisonment for a term of 3 to 5 years.
